Collection: Murakumo -Cloud Paint-

Murakumo-nuri is a unique lacquerware technique where soot from a Japanese candle is applied to the topcoat before it hardens, creating a pattern reminiscent of dark clouds. The soot from the Japanese candle, applied while the lacquer is still wet, creates beautiful patterns that evoke black clouds or the flickering of flames.

In the Yamanaka lacquerware producing region, there are only about 10 hand-painting artisans, and only one of them is capable of Murakumo-nuri. Asada Lacquerware is committed to training the next generation of Murakumo-nuri artisans.
