We named this lacquerware "Utsuroi" with the aim of creating a product that utilizes traditional techniques while naturally blending into modern lifestyles.
Keyaki (zelkova) wood is used for the base, and each piece is turned to an extreme thinness.
The exterior is finished with a glossy metallic color, while the interior is treated with natural lacquer.
The coating changes expression depending on the viewing angle and light, giving it a quiet, metallic texture.
When held, it has a cool sensation reminiscent of a titanium cup, yet you can feel the gentle touch of natural wood on your lips.
The thickness is only about 1.5mm.
While it appears delicate, wood is a poor conductor of heat, so even when hot food is placed in it, heat is not easily transferred to your hand, making it light and comfortable to use.
